110-inch DUAL HEAD
HOT MELT ROLLER COATER
A really big hot melt roller coater for the lamination of wall panels,
ceiling panels and floor panels in the recreational vehicle (RV), mobile
home, and fifth-wheel towables industries. Coats one side or both sides
of the substrate in a single pass; single or double sided coating modes
selectable with the flip of a switch. Combined with the 110"
Rotary Laminator, this makes a complete laminating station for very
large panels.
SYNONYMS
Depending on your industry, you may refer to this machine as a dual
head hot melt roller coater, a double-head or twin-head hot melt roll
coater, 2-sided wall panel laminator, 2-way panel laminator, or double-sided
hot melt coater.

The Model A/D configuration is actually two configurations in one. In
the Model A/D, the top coating roll and its companion doctor roll move
up and down as a unit; there is also a movable backup roll that moves out
of the way when the top coater roll is in the lowered position (in "double
coater" mode), and moves over to take the place of the top coater roll
when it is in the raised position (in "single bottom coater" mode). Changing
modes can be done "on the fly" with the flip of a switch.
In the Model A/D running as a Double Coater Roll Configuration, the
liquid coating for the bottom surface is held in the trough between the
bottom coating roll and its companion doctor roll; the liquid coating
for the top surface is held in the trough between the top coating roll
and its companion doctor roll, which is in the lowered position. In this
mode, the movable backup roll is moved away and does not participate
in the coating operation.
In the Model A/D running as a Single Bottom Coater Roll Configuration, the
top coating roll unit moves up out of the way and the movable backup
roll slides in to take its position; the backup roll simply assists with
moving the substrate through the machine. The liquid coating for the
bottom surface is held in the trough between the bottom coating roll
and its companion doctor roll.

OPERATIONAL DESCRIPTION
Union Tool has designed and built the only working 110"
wide dual head hot melt roller coater in the world. This dual head machine
has the capability of changing from a single-sided coater to a double-sided
coater with the flip of a switch.
When double side coating, both coating heads are parallel with each
other to apply adhesive to both sides of the substrate. The single coating
operation moves the top coating head away from the bottom and automatically
locates a single Teflon coated roll in the same position. Hydraulic
cylinders provide the movement for these rolls.
The machine was designed to laminate walls, floors and ceilings for
the recreational vehicle (RV) industry.
